Senior Manager - Human Resources

Christine KWhen I joined GSK Bio in 2000, I'd already worked with the business as an independent trainer and consultant, so knew about the passion and commitment of its people. Although we've grown fast, these basics about the culture of GSK Bio have not changed - it's still driven by people who care about their role and the overall mission of the company.

HR is a support service in its truest sense. I take great pride in the fact that I'm playing a vital role in GSK Bio's overall objectives. By supporting the wellbeing of employees and helping them, the management and the teams to achieve their full potential, I feel connected to the great work that they're doing every day. It's also exciting to be a part of somewhere that's positive and constantly growing - there's a real sense of energy and enthusiasm here.

In an average day, I'll spend much of my time providing support and guidance on a varied number of questions, such as personal issues with performance, team dynamics, headcount management, development and career progression, or reorganisations. Proposing solutions and ways to overcome difficulties is the core of my role in the business. A trustworthy relationship with management and employees alike is essential to achieve this objective.

As the business continues to expand, development is a key focus. Being an HR Generalist, as well as helping people source the training they need, I also get to take part, so that I understand what's involved. As for my own development, the scope of my role is changing in line with the rest of the business and the HR department. For now, that means an increased international and global focus, but could also mean the opportunity to specialise in other areas of HR.
