Co-ordinator - Rixensart & Wavre Sample Processing & Warehouse

Christine HWhen I joined GSK Bio 19 years ago, it was really my first job, and I didn't know too much about the company. There have been lots of changes in the last 20 years, not least the amazing growth, and I feel that I've been able to develop along with the organisation.

I started out as a lab technician in quality control, then moved to R&D to process testing on clinical samples. After a few more years I progressed to clinical immunology, where my role as first lab technician saw me managing a team of four. I now coordinate a team of 17. People management is now my main role, and it's one that I really enjoy - especially on the coaching side.

My day usually starts with checking priorities on clinical studies, then planning the work for my team, with a view to who's certified for which activities. I also spend time in project management meetings, because I'm keen to find ways of improving processes and driving efficiency.

There's so much to celebrate here, but I think the one area where we could do more is in talking about our achievements. There's a lot of information out there, but we should be sharing it with our teams more effectively. It's a great way to increase productivity, as well as supporting learning and development.

Collaboration plays a major role in my day-to-day responsibilities. But it's also central to the way that GSK Bio operates. We work very closely with other businesses, organisations and research bodies to find the best solutions. In the end, it's a far more productive way of working than trying to keep everything in-house.
